Call Me Ang: I'm Back

I'm Back

Monday, November 9, 2015

Fellow bloggers, have you ever felt uninspired? I've been dealing with this since the death of my Grams. Understandably, losing her took the wind out of my sails. Suddenly the things that prompted my creativity disappeared. I just felt blah. No other way to explain my emotions.

So, I took several months off from blogging.  I vowed I wouldn't return, unless my future posts were sincere.  I started focusing on how I wanted my blog to reflect the honest moments in my life.

So often, we only put our best foot forward, we don't want people to see the daily chaos in our lives. Piles of laundry, dirty dishes, sweat pants, three day old hair....You know what I mean. When I started Call Me Ang, I wanted it to be a lifestyle blog. I wanted to inspire others with my domestic and style ideas, as so many have inspired me.

With that said, it lacked one thing: heart.  I love to write. I love to write about my experiences as a daughter, wife and mother.  As I browsed my previous posts, I realized that many were generic. I was holding back. By nature, I'm an oversharer. I know that "oversharer" isn't a word, but for all practical purposes, it is on Call Me Ang.

Going forward, I'm going to start being real, honest and open.  I'm getting back to basics.

So here we go!

Since April, life has flown by. Our family had a very low-key Summer. We visited family and friends in Tennessee and Indiana.  However, we usually have one big trip annually...not this year. No vacation, that was rough.  However, we are facing a major life transition in a little over a year and a half, so our family is being fiscally conservative (as you never know what the future may hold).  Raising a family and being a responsible adult is tough sometimes.

School started for our girls in September. I have one in elementary and one in middle. Life has revolved around homework and after school activities.

I went blonde...again...Change is good. I know, I know...I look better as a brunette (majority polled), but I really love being a blonde every now and then!

No filters here folks...Though I wish I had...

One of the events I look forward to each year, is decorating our front porch for the Holidays.  This year my husband was actually home to partake in all the Fall festivities. Including my annual trip to the nursery to pick up "1000" buckets of mums to adorn our steps and flank our front door. I don't think he appreciated the trip as much as I did. He kept muttering, "won't all of this be too busy on our porch, it's going to be crowded." Men.....

What do you think...

Halloween was a scream! Emma and her friends did a Wizard of Oz theme and Olivia went as a Stormtrooper. Here are a few pictures from our night:

Emma as the Cowardly Lion (photobombed by the red solo cup...keeping it classy...do you spot it...I'm thinking of doing this in all my photos...kind of like a Where's Waldo....)

Follow the yellow...eh um...I mean...red brick road....What are the odds that we would have a brick road right in front of our home....pure luck!

My sister in law was visiting on Halloween. She graciously passed out candy to the kiddos (and wine to the adults) that visited our home.  My husband and I took Olivia hunting for candy with her friends.

Now we are in November (where I hear people are arguing about red Starbucks cups), and I'm looking forward to cooking a small Thanksgiving meal and decorating for Christmas. Our tradition is to decorate the day after Thanksgiving. A lot of you have gotten the jump on putting up your trees and decking your halls (which has drawn some criticism)! Your photos have brought a smile to my face. There are no rules, continue to follow your heart!

Over the weekend I made apple dumplings...I put my own spin on the dish! I'll post the recipe this week.

In a nut shell, that has been my life over the past several months. I will still do fashion and home decor posts, because I live for beautiful frocks and spaces! However, I'll be speaking more from the heart and I hope is resonates with my readers. I have to give you a reason to keep coming back, right?

TTFN,

  4. Excited to see that you're back. I totally understand about having to take a break. Although this isn't a sad thing, after I got engaged about a month ago, it took me weeks to level out my emotions, and I just didn't think I could put the energy into the blog that my readers deserved. The good news is, once you come back, most people do too!

    1. Thank you. I did! Crazy I know....easier to do it myself than take the time to go to the salon.

  9. With regard to your past blog posts, I think you are being too hard on yourself. Your post about overspending was like a shot straight to my heart, as my own struggles in this area have cost me big time - so big that I couldn't bring myself to comment on your post when you first wrote it. I love your blog, and I'm glad you're back :)

    1. Oh my goodness, thank you for the kind words. I hope you have found resolution in your own struggles with spending. It's a daily battle. I constantly look around at all I do have and I'm content , grateful and happy...it took a long time to get to this place. I hope you've found contentment as well.

  10. You are so amazing to share the good & bad with all of your faithful readers. Your post on being fiscally responsible hit way too close to home for me. Thank you for showing me that you can be a style icon on a budget. Whenever I get upset about not being able to take a trip this year, I am reminded that not everyone can go on an amazing weeklong journey every year. Please blog on how to decorate for the holidays on a budget I <3 your blog & eagerly await each post.

    1. Your comment brought a smile to my face. Thank you. I think a lot of women struggle with a bad case of the wants. The vast majority of my clothing now comes from Old Navy and I'm perfectly fine with that...Contentment is something you strive for daily. Budget shopping makes me happy...However, my loving family makes me the happiest. Nothing material could ever compare. I actually just made a trip today to Michael's to pick up some holiday items (armed with coupons ha!). I'm looking forward to decorating and sharing my home. Thanks again for stopping by to read my little blog.
