Call Me Ang: My Shaggy Best Friend

My Shaggy Best Friend

Monday, April 20, 2015

Let me tell you about my best friend...He never has bad days.  He never takes me for granted. His love is unconditional. He protects me daily.  He is ultra cuddly. His heart is pure.  He listens to me.  He comforts me.  He is the BEST company.  He's kind and gentle.  He's intelligent. But above all....He loves with all his might.

If you follow me on social media, then you know exactly who I am talking about. If you don't, then you will have to wait until the end of this post to find out.

Today you are getting a glimpse into our kitchen.  I'm not doing a full tour (not that there is really much to see), but since this post is about something I like to whip up for my best friend in the kitchen, I thought it would be appropriate to give you a sneak peek.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

When building our home, I knew one thing was certain. I wanted white shaker cabinets throughout the whole house.  I love a shiny white happy kitchen!  I would have preferred a carrera marble or white quartz counter, but this was a semi-custom home and my choices were limited.

Dog Cook Book

Eldridge Pendant

This is our kitchen table, it was once dark wood.  I was beyond tired of all the wood in our house and decided to give it a makeover (with Chalk Paint). I wanted something subtle, so I painted the table white and the chairs a light gray (and did minor distressing). Initially, I was disappointed in the lack of contrast, but then it grew on me. This table is also used for arts, crafts and school work, so it faces a lot of abuse.  The top needs to be refinished. I plan to do a tutorial in the near future.

The first thing I did when we moved into the house, was switch out the builder grade lighting.  I went with gray vintage pendants above the island and the Eldridge Pendant (in antique bronze), which is above our table. Both are from Ballard Designs and very affordable. However, I have recently found a similar pendant (at a different retailer) with a better price point.

Kitchen Bathroom

For families with children, opting for a beverage fridge, instead of a wine cooler is practical.  We love having this option and it worked out great when our fridge decided it wanted to burn the house down. Okay...maybe not burn the house down, but something did catch fire internally. Which forced us (late at night) to unplug the unit and cram as much as we could into the beverage fridge. Good times!

Dog Cookbook

Where was I....Oh yes...are you wondering what I'm whipping up in the kitchen today? None other than a treat for my best friend!

If you haven't figured it out yet, my best friend is our dog Ollie Doodle! Ollie is our Goldendoodle and the best fur-baby on the planet! I love him as if I had given birth to him myself...no really.

I am so excited to share a special book called Shaggy Dog Eats! This book is packed with simple and wholesome recipes for your dog.  Ollie can't tell you himself...but he loves the Apple Treats  (recipe  in the book).  He lays at my feet in anticipation. Our Ollie is a very picky eater.  To date, there is not a single recipe in this book that he won't devour. The best part...the pictures. Aren't pictures ALWAYS the best part of any book? Holy cuteness. If you are a crazy dog lady (or man) like me, then you will thoroughly enjoy this cook book!

Speaking of crazy dog ladies (or gents), the woman who wrote this cookbook is a SAINT I tell ya!  The author, Christy Bright, has the kindest heart.  She's also wacky and FUN! And....a fellow Goldendoodle owner, which is how our friendship began.  Christy routinely takes in foster pups and treats them as her own. If there is one thing I've learned, dog people are GOOD people...As a general rule...people who love animals...pretty much rock at life!

So are you ready to meet my best friend...Here he is....

Wow, this post was packed with all kinds of information. You got to meet my best friend, take a peek into our kitchen, and learn of a great dog cookbook....

  1. I have two best friends, well three if you count the hubby. My two goldendoodles, Lola and Shandy are my besties. In the last 5 years, I have had 6 surgeries and they helped to nurse me thru all of them. They will nap with me, watch me when I lay in bed, give me an occasional kiss to bring up my spirits. I am currently at home recuperating from total hip replacement surgery and they are the best friends ever.

  6. No Goldendoodle but I've got two fur babies--our 2 year old Yorkie (Max) and our 9 month old Beagle (Penny). I love having them here to keep me company while the less furry kids are at school during the day and snuggle when the husband is away :)

  7. Well, you know my very best friend, Dooley! He's pretty fantastic, and I'm not at all biased! :) His little brother, Jarvis, is a close second as far as best friends go!

  8. We have 2 furry best friends. Texas is a 9 year old miniature dachshund and Tucker is an 8 year old in-betweenie-weenie. :-) Texas was abused before we got him and Tucker is a Parvo survivor. They live a life of couch naps, fluffy dog beds, soft blankets, treats and a grassy yard.

  9. Mosley is my first baby :) He's a mutt. His dad is a King Charles cavalier and his mom is a shar pei. Most folks think he looks like the creature from the movie "Never Ending Story." My husband(at the time fiancé) adopted him for me 7 years ago because he wanted me to have company during his first deployment. He is super chill, loves his stuffed bear, rolling in the grass, and playing fetch with his "sisters." He gets along great with my kids, ages 3, 2 and 7 months.

  12. I have a Goldendoodle named Harley and Bernedoodle named Luna. Harley was my first doodle and I am thankful for him. He is my best friend, he has helped me with dealing with stress in my life after a rough divorce and having my young children move with their father due to a court order. Harley has been there for me and he has not judged me, he is playful when the time is right and he is calm when the time calls for it. I love going on walks with Harley and meeting up with fellow doodles. I feel as if I should repay him for just always being there for me without question. I recently began baking for Harley and Luna and baked Harley a birthday cake for his 2nd birthday in February. I truly do not see life without my doodle family, they love me unconditionally.
