Call Me Ang: Great Room

Great Room

Thursday, February 12, 2015

We built a new house a little over a year ago.  While this wasn't a custom home, we were able to select a great portion of the finishes (more on that later).  This will not be our forever home. Due to my husband's career, I do expect us to relocate in a couple of years. With that in mind, I try to keep the house a neutral pallet.  Our walls in the great room, dinning room and kitchen are Benjamin Moore, Revere Pewter. I have not painted our bedrooms....yet. We live on the coast, and I wanted our home to reflect just that. However, I don't like kitchy, so I tried to incorporate elements of turquoise to reflect my love of the water.

When posting photos of our home on Instagram, our great room and kitchen get a lot of love. So I thought I would start a home tour, with our main living space.  This room is far from complete. However, it is suitable for now.  Home decor is constantly evolving. I'm forever rearranging, adding and removing items in this space.  I receive a lot of questions about the furniture, rug and art (Sara Abott). I'll share with you where you can buy comparable items, to create a similar look below (click on individual pictures for details).

I'll be posting more photos of our home in the upcoming weeks. Along with new DIY projects, including reupholstering chairs and a bench...Wish me luck!

  1. I love that you are coming back to blogging, but don't love all of the affiliate links.

    1. Thank you, I'm happy to be back to blogging! The affiliate links are the only way to provide an organized and easy way for readers to find the products (I also leave the name up so that readers can search themselves without clicking the link). But if you go up into the body of the post, the words: art, furniture and rug take you to where I purchased our items...and they are not affiliate linked. :)

  5. Ang, would you share the color of your slipcovers? I have been itching for a white couch for over a year but am still trying to decide if I am crazy for even thinking it...3 dogs and 2 other human mess-makers live with me. I keep telling myself it's just furniture and I can wash the covers... Maybe if I don't go "stark" white??
    Thanks,
    Nancy

  6. Nancy, the slipcovers came with our sofa. They are a cool cream and have held up for six years now. They are a faux velvet and wipe up perfectly. I've spilled coffee, had muddy dog prints, etc and they cleaned up nicely. Our furniture is from ClubFurniture.com and its the Grand Charleston Collection.

  7. one more question and I'll leave you alone....did you add the feather wrap to the seats or did you go with standard seats?

    1. Yes, we did go with the down wrapped cushions. They are still fluffy as the day we purchased the sofa! :)
